Dear rowing friends,
In just under a year, the 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships will be hosted by North Rhine-Westphalia, the No. 1 sporting state in Germany. A top-class sporting event is once again taking place in our sport-loving state. More than five million people take part in around 17,000 sports clubs here.
Countless medallists come from North Rhine-Westphalia – at the Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as at international and national championships. This is the home of top international sport.
And because everything that makes sport so exciting comes together here, we have set ourselves a major goal: we want to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games on the Rhine and Ruhr.
The regatta course in Duisburg with its long tradition is one of our state’s most beautiful sports venues. The international rowing and canoeing elite have been meeting here for 90 years, always cheered on enthusiastically by a passionate audience. The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games have just
been hosted here. An unforgettable experience for everyone!

We in North Rhine-Westphalia and you in Duisburg have often proven that we are excellent hosts for international sporting events.
We will also demonstrate this at the 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships at one of the world‘s most important rowing venues.
My heartfelt thanks already go to those responsible and to the helping hands on site. They will ensure that athletes and spectators experience an unforgettable event.

I am already looking forward to the competition and wish you all the best until then!

Hendrik Wüst
Prime Minister, State of
North-Rhine Westphalia
