Charles Beale walks through the Duisburg Sports Park with a smile on his face. Wearing the New Zealand team jersey, the 20-year-old has just won the C Final of the men’s pair alongside his teammate Tadhg Farac at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships. Yet it is not the sporting success that he believes will remain his strongest memory of the event.
“The course is beautiful, and the venue with its large grandstand is fantastic,” said the rower from Christchurch. “It’s a real pleasure to race here.” The extensively modernized Duisburg Regatta Course impressed the New Zealander just as much as the atmosphere created by the spectators.
World Titles to Be Decided This Weekend
Competition at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships continued on Friday with the D and C Finals, followed by the semifinal races. Athletes battled for final placings and, more importantly, for places in the A Finals, where the world championship titles will be decided this weekend.
The first medal races are scheduled for Saturday, 25 July. Racing begins at 9:05 a.m., with the first of ten world championship finals taking place at 10:00 a.m. in the women’s Para single sculls. Four crews from the German Rowing Federation will also compete in Saturday morning’s A Finals.
The Championships conclude on Sunday, 26 July, at the Duisburg Regatta Course. Once again, racing starts at 9:05 a.m., with a further ten world championship titles to be awarded. Charles Beale already knows how he plans to spend the weekend.
“I’m looking forward to enjoying the racing as a spectator,” said the New Zealander, “and hopefully celebrating a few successes with my teammates.”

Tickets for the final two days of competition are still available. They can be purchased online at duisburg2026.com or at the ticket office at the Duisburg Regatta Course.
The 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships receive financial support from the German Federal Government, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the City of Duisburg, the Regionalverband Ruhr, and the Sparkassen Sports Foundation.
