Dear rowing fans, dear athletes, dear readers,
as the Mayor of Duisburg, I am looking forward to welcoming you at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships next year.
We cannot wait for you to experience the hospitality that our city is known for. The choice of Duisburg as
host for next year’s competition is a testament to our city’s legacy in international water sports. The Wedau Regatta Course has regularly hosted major rowing events. Its rich history includes the 1983 World Rowing Championships, numerous World Rowing Cup events, and the 2020 European Rowing Under
23 Championships.
This purpose-built artificial lake – 2,180 meters long and 120 meters wide – has been regularly modernized, ensuring it meets the highest standards for competitive rowing. Recent and ongoing improvements, including the complete rebuild of the regatta office building and finish tower, underscore Duisburg’s commitment to providing a world-class venue.
This prestigious championship serves as a critical stepping stone for young athletes who are on the cusp of senior international success. It provides an unparalleled platform for these rowers to showcase their skills, gain invaluable experience on a global stage, and contend for coveted world titles in a
multitude of boat classes.
For Duisburg, hosting the 2026 Championships offers us a chance to further enhance our reputation as a premier destination for water sports and an excellent host for large-scale international events. It is also an opportunity for the local community to witness toptier athletic performance firsthand and foster a deeper appreciation for the sport of rowing.
As the countdown to July 2026 begins, the city of Duisburg and the Regatta Duisburg are working diligently to ensure a memorable experience for all participants and visitors.
