Dear Rowing Friends,
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Duisburg, Germany – a city with a deep-rooted connection to water, sport, and industrial heritage, and home to one of the most iconic regatta courses in the world.
The Duisburg Regatta Course stands as a proud symbol of rowing history and continuous innovation. From its early beginnings as a gravel and sand excavation site in the 1920s to its transformation into a world-class venue, Duisburg has long embraced the spirit of progress and excellence.
Since the first rowing regatta was held here in 1935, the venue has played host to numerous milestone events – including the European Championships in the 1950s and 60s, and the World Rowing Championships in 1983. With recent upgrades such as the warm-up canal, modernised boat
sheds, and a brand-new finish tower and regatta building in 2025, Duisburg is once again ready to welcome the world.
The World Rowing Under 23 Championships represent the energy and ambition of a new generation of rowers – athletes who stand at the threshold of elite competition and embody the future of our sport. This event is not only a celebration of emerging talent but also of the support systems, communities, and legacies that make such journeys possible.
At World Rowing, we believe in providing athletes with the best possible platforms to thrive, and the 2026 Championships in Duisburg promise to do just that. I would like to express our sincere thanks to the local organising committee, the City of Duisburg, and all volunteers and supporters whose efforts bring this event to life.
May these championships inspire, challenge, and unite us, on the water and beyond.
Yours sincerely.
Jean-Christophe Rolland
