The 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships will officially begin with a festive Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, at the Duisburg Regatta Course. Starting at 6:30 p.m., spectators are warmly invited to join athletes from around the world in celebrating the official start of the Championships. Admission is free.
One of the highlights of the ceremony will be the Parade of Nations, during which representatives of all participating teams will march in front of the grandstand carrying their national flags, showcasing the international spirit of the Championships. More than 1,000 athletes and team officials from around 50 nations are expected to compete in Duisburg.
During the ceremony, representatives of the Organising Committee, the City of Duisburg and the international rowing federation World Rowing will officially welcome the international rowing community to Duisburg. The programme will also feature a variety of artistic and musical performances, creating a memorable and entertaining start to the Championships.
The Opening Ceremony is not only a special moment for the participating teams but also a unique opportunity for local residents and sports fans to experience the excitement and international atmosphere of a world-class sporting event. With the Parade of Nations, official speeches and a diverse entertainment programme, the evening promises to be an enjoyable experience for visitors of all ages—even for those discovering rowing for the very first time. Following the Opening Ceremony, four days of world-class racing await from 23 to 26 July 2026 at the Duisburg Regatta Course. The world’s best Under 23 rowers will compete for places in the finals before battling for the coveted world championship titles. The medal races will take place on 25 and 26 July, promising outstanding competition and an unforgettable atmosphere.
